Polybutadiene rubber for plastic modification
Today's commercial high-impact polystyrene resins are made by polymerization of styrene in the presence of an unsaturated rubber, generally polybutadiene, in a solution or mass-suspension process. Such polybutadiene is Buna CB. The use of organo-metallic catalysts in the production of Buna CB leads to highly uniform polymers which are particularly suited for this application.
The rubber-in-styrene graft polymerization of Buna CB results in superior products compared with those produced by mechanical blending.
In addtion to the common Lithium polybutadiene rubbers, LANXESS offers a range of high-cis Neodymium polybutadiene rubbers for plastic modification which offer improved properties of the final products.
- completely soluble in styrene - high purity and light color - extremely low gel content - compliance with FDA regulations - solution viscosity with tight tolerance limits
