High-modulus grades – stiffness comparison | | In a number of cases, Durethan® and Pocan® high-modulus materials can bring cost savings compared with products that have a lower filler content. | If a part is produced in both a general-purpose material such as Durethan® BKV30 (PA 6 GF30) and the high-modulus grade of Durethan® DPBKV60H2.0EF (PA 6 GF60), then a considerably higher stiffness can be achieved in the part by switching to this latter material. Even if the design is altered in such a way that a part with the same weight is achieved, it is still possible to achieve significant gains in part stiffness. This also applies, to a lesser extent, for a design modification that gives a part with identical material costs.
In addition to the higher stiffness, Durethan® DPBKV60H2.0EF also provides lower warpage. | Comparison of stiffness/weight/costs | Taking flexural stiffness as an example, the left-hand graph compares the part weight and material costs of two grades of identical stiffness.
The right-hand graph shows the increase in stiffness for parts with comparable volume, weight and material costs.
