Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) | | LANXESS Engineering plastics offer a wide range of solutions in the field of ADAS sensors. Complex combinations of requirements can be fulfilled precisely and variably. | Technical and commercial requirements for ADAS sensors
The requirements for ADAS sensors are diverse and demanding. Sensors are becoming more and more powerful and compact, at the same time they are highly safety-relevant components. The materials used, e.g. for the sensor housings, must therefore partly meet competing requirements. The most important material properties include, above all:
- UV, hydrolysis and chemical resistance - mechanically robust - laser-marking and -weldable - low warpage - low coefficient of thermal expansion | Due to their unique range of properties, engineering plastics offer significant advantages over other materials to meet the requirements mentioned:
- lower production costs - weight reduction - greater design freedom - high degree of functional integration
However, sensor-specific requirements, such as high transparency for radar radiation in radome, can only be achieved with suitable plastics. This is where our engineering plastics Durethan and Pocan come into play. LANXESS already offers tailor-made material solutions, such as hydrolysis-stabilized PBT grades. These make a decisive contribution to a large-scale feasibility.
